On the Hunt

Published 7 August 2025 | Marvel Champions: The Card Game On the Hunt Previewing Tigra, One of the Two New Heroes from Civil War “It’s just instinct. This cat’s got to hunt.” – Tigra Not too long ago, we provided a first look at Civil War, the new customizable scenario expansion for Marvel Champions: The Card Game. Today, we’re taking a look at the first of the two new heroes included in that expansion: the feline huntress, Tigra! Read on to learn about her playstyle and how every minion in the game will learn to fear her name. As a police officer in New York City, Greer Nelson $(document).ready(function() { var opts = { iframe: true, innerHeight: 426, innerWidth: 300 }; $('#F7F2').colorbox(opts); }); (Civil War, 1B) has had plenty of experience with chasing down criminals. Her undercover work lets her search for a copy of Hunted $(document).ready(function() { var opts = { iframe: true, innerHeight: 426, innerWidth: 300 }; $('#8195').colorbox(opts); }); (Civil War, 7) and add it to her hand, a card that is indicative of her entire game plan. Playing Hunted has her pull any minion she chooses out of the encounter deck and corner it, stunning that minion for good measure. When that minion is defeated, Tigra $(document).ready(function() { var opts = { iframe: true, innerHeight: 426, innerWidth: 300 }; $('#10BE1').colorbox(opts); }); (Civil War, 1A) immediately readies (regardless of who or what defeated that minion), allowing her actions to flow into one another as she searches for new prey. It may seem detrimental to actively pull minions into play, but for a hero like Tigra, that’s exactly what she wants. Her On the Hunt ability allows Tigra to draw up to three extra cards at the start of the player phase based on the number of minions engaged with her. That means, if Tigra starts the player phase with at least three minions engaged with her (which is easy to do, with three copies of Hunted in her deck), she could start the phase with a whopping eight cards in hand! Every card gives Tigra another tool to work with or resource to spend, and since Hunted stuns the minion that it summons, she won’t have to worry about taking any attacks from those minions right away. Tigra’s focus on minions continues into the rest of her kit. Her Cat’s Head Amulet $(document).ready(function() { var opts = { iframe: true, innerHeight: 426, innerWidth: 300 }; $('#1543D').colorbox(opts); }); (Civil War, 4) and Tooth and Claw $(document).ready(function() { var opts = { iframe: true, innerHeight: 426, innerWidth: 300 }; $('#6E9E').colorbox(opts); }); (Civil War, 8) both scale to the number of minions engaged with her, generating more and costing fewer resources respectively. Her Sharp Claws $(document).ready(function() { var opts = { iframe: true, innerHeight: 426, innerWidth: 300 }; $('#918A').colorbox(opts); }); (Civil War, 5) can grant her basic attacks a boost and help take out weaker prey, which synergizes well with Hunted’s ability to ready her up for another strike. If things start looking dicey, Tigra can utilize her Cat-Like Reflexes $(document).ready(function() { var opts = { iframe: true, innerHeight: 426, innerWidth: 300 }; $('#16901').colorbox(opts); }); (Civil War, 6) to reduce some incoming fire (from any source) and confuse a minion at the same time, allowing her some breathing room to switch back to alter-ego form when needed. And while she’s in alter-ego form, Greer can drag those minions to the Precinct HQ $(document).ready(function() { var opts = { iframe: true, innerHeight: 426, innerWidth: 300 }; $('#FC79').colorbox(opts); }); (Civil War, 3) and get them to remove some threat from a scheme! While Tigra can gain a lot of benefits from having multiple minions engaged with her, she will need to deal with those minions eventually. Fortunately, that’s where the rest of her pre-built Aggression deck comes in! First in line is Two-Gun Kid $(document).ready(function() { var opts = { iframe: true, innerHeight: 426, innerWidth: 300 }; $('#7350').colorbox(opts); }); (Civil War, 10), a handy ally who can attack two enemies at once, potentially taking out a pair of minions in one go. If Tigra doesn’t have time to deal damage, she can deliver a Coup de Grâce $(document).ready(function() { var opts = { iframe: true, innerHeight: 426, innerWidth: 300 }; $('#6002').colorbox(opts); }); (Civil War, 16) to a non-Elite minion with an upgrade attached, instantly defeating it while ignoring any pesky When Defeated abilities it may have. This works especially well with Hunted or Tactic upgrades like Suppressing Fire $(document).ready(function() { var opts = { iframe: true, innerHeight: 426, innerWidth: 300 }; $('#B10B').colorbox(opts); }); (Civil War, 14), which can provide handy benefits without costing Tigra any momentum. And when Tigra is ready for a big swing, she can launch a Savage Strike $(document).ready(function() { var opts = { iframe: true, innerHeight: 426, innerWidth: 300 }; $('#3330').colorbox(opts); }); (Civil War, 17) at the villain or a particularly tough minion. Combine that with her signature Sharp Claws and something like Aggressive Conditioning $(document).ready(function() { var opts = { iframe: true, innerHeight: 426, innerWidth: 300 }; $('#C17C').colorbox(opts); }); (Civil War, 13), and that’s a whopping 10-damage basic attack with overkill and piercing! Dish that out to a minion with Hunted attached, and Tigra can keep fighting until there’s no prey left to chase. No minion is safe when Tigra is on the hunt. With her abilities only getting stronger the more foes she faces, Tigra is a fierce hero and a strong addition to any team. Keep an eye out for a preview of her counterpart in this expansion, Hulkling, in the coming weeks, and look forward to the release of Civil War in September!
